The Challenge

Canon USA faced significant issues with its front-facing website. The site was outdated, lacked mobile responsiveness, and had an extremely high bounce rate. These factors led to poor user engagement and a suboptimal customer experience. The goal was to redesign and reconstruct the website to address these issues and launch the new site. However, the project encountered complexities due to the involvement of multiple vendors, unforeseen complications, and scope creep from different stakeholders, causing a delay until Black Friday of that year.

The Solution

Our team, consisting of 12 to 15 engineers, collaborated with two other vendors, including IBM, to tackle this challenge. Initially, our engagement with Canon involved creating support videos for flagship cameras like the Canon EOS 7D. This successful collaboration opened up the opportunity to lead the website overhaul. The project encompassed:

  1. Website Development: Redesigning the website to be modern and mobile-responsive. Enhancing the user interface (UI) and user experience (UX) to reduce bounce rates. Utilizing a tech stack that included React.js for front-end development, Node.js for server-side operations, and AWS for hosting and scalability.
  2. Video Production: Developing an extensive support video library to aid customers in using and maintaining Canon products effectively. Utilizing high-quality production techniques to ensure the videos were engaging and informative.
  3. Project Management: Implementing robust project management practices to handle scope creep and vendor coordination. Ensuring clear communication and alignment among all stakeholders to minimize delays and complications.

The Result

The new website launched on Black Friday, showcasing significant improvements in user experience and operational efficiency. The integration of roT-enabled features and comprehensive support videos significantly enhanced customer engagement and satisfaction. The modern, responsive design helped reduce the bounce rate and improved overall user interaction. Canon USA’s commitment to providing top-tier digital solutions was further solidified through this initiative. The project also highlighted the importance of meticulous project management and scope control to mitigate delays and complications.
